Anti-Slip Treatments
Improve Grip on Slippery Tiles and Stone
Wet, smooth or contaminated surfaces can become dangerously slippery.
Lustre Ltd provides professional anti-slip treatments for natural stone, porcelain, ceramic tiles and other hard surfaces throughout Auckland.
We assess the surface, how the area is used and what makes it slippery. We then recommend a treatment that improves grip while protecting the surface as much as possible.

Is Your Floor Slippery When Wet?
A floor may look clean and still have poor grip.
Water, soap, grease, mould, mineral deposits and cleaning-product residue can all make a surface more slippery. Highly polished stone and smooth tiles may also provide limited grip in wet areas.
Anti-slip treatment may help improve safety in:
Showers and bathrooms
Pool surrounds
Patios and outdoor entertaining areas
Steps and stairs
Entranceways
Kitchens and laundries
Shop fronts
Restaurants and cafés
Apartment common areas
Council and commercial properties

Anti-Slip Solutions for Stone and Tiles
There is no single treatment that suits every floor.
Marble, granite, porcelain and ceramic tiles respond differently. Indoor showers also have different needs from outdoor paths, commercial entrances or pool surrounds.
Depending on the surface and location, we may recommend:
Non-Abrasive Anti-Slip Treatments
A specialist treatment may be used to create more grip without adding a visible coating. Suitability depends on the surface and the finish required.
Slip-Resistant Surface Coatings
A coating can add texture and improve grip on suitable floors. We consider appearance, traffic, cleaning and future maintenance before recommending this option.
Honing Polished Stone
Polished marble, granite and other suitable natural stone may be honed to create a softer, less reflective finish with improved surface grip.
Sandblasting or Mechanical Texturing
Some outdoor stone and hard surfaces may benefit from a mechanically textured finish. This method can create a more noticeable change in appearance and texture.
Anti-Slip Strips and Stair Treatments
Slip-resistant strips or other targeted treatments may be suitable for steps, stairs, ramps and defined walking areas.
Specialist Etching Treatments
Certain surfaces may be suitable for a controlled chemical treatment. This option must be carefully assessed because it can change the surface texture and appearance.
We Assess the Whole Area
Choosing an anti-slip treatment takes more than applying a product.
Before recommending a solution, we consider:
The type and condition of the stone or tile
Whether the area is indoors or outdoors
How often the surface becomes wet
The amount and type of foot traffic
The slope and drainage of the area
Existing sealers, coatings or surface treatments
Soap, grease, mould or cleaning-product residue
Mineral deposits and efflorescence
The required appearance
Cleaning and maintenance needs
Whether slip-resistance testing may be required
This helps us recommend a practical treatment for the surface and how the area is used.
