An acid etch occurs when an acidic agent comes into contact with a natural stone surface, such as limestone, marble and some granites. This occurs most commonly on bench tops and vanities. These are essentially ‘acid burns’ which react to the mineral composition of the stone, thereby removing the polished finish.
The marking or ‘etching’ in the top left hand picture was caused by an acidic detergent bottle being left on the floor. With our proven methods of repair, we were able to remove the etching and staining from both the tiles and the grout. Lower left shows staining and etching from a wine bottle. There are various methods of etch removal, it all depends on the type of stone and the severity of the damage. We are able to remedy the majority of these types of surface damage.
